Don't Panic: Quick, Easy, and Delicious Meals for Your Family by Susie Martinez, Vanda Howell, and Bonnie Garcia, Revell (A Division of Baker Publishing Group), $14.99 list price, paperback.
This is a no-nonsense collection of recipes that are family-friendly and easy to put together using ingredients readily found in local grocery stores. The recipes range from entrees cooked on the grill to one-skillet and oven-baked meals, and crock pot dishes, plus side dishes and desserts.
The chapters include Small Bites and Appetizers; Breakfasts, Breads, and Brunch; Soups, Salads, and Sides; Pasta, Crockpot Collection, Easy Baked Oven Dishes, Grate Grills and Marinades, Savory Skillets and Quick Sauces, and Desserts Divine. The recipes include icons to designate those that are quick to prepare, can be frozen, are lower in fat, calories and sodium; are good for entertaining, those that use six ingredients or less, and which recipes are the authors' top picks.
The Hearty Oven Beef Stew is easy to make, turns out very tender, and is a good one to serve guests as it makes 10 servings (or yields plenty of leftovers for another weeknight meal). I have tagged other recipes to try such as Barbeque Chicken Wraps, Beef and Cashew Stir-Fry, Four Cheese Baked Ziti, and Homemade Trail Mix.
The only negatives for me about this book is that there are no photos except for the one on the cover, and the book doesn't lay open very well while in use. Other than that, the recipes are good and easy enough for cooks of any level of expertise.
